Last year I met a cool old hippie at the Marion County Master Gardeners Show. He had about 10 Mittagyna Speciosa plants for sale. Apparently he leased his plants to the University Of Florida for testing and research. I ended up buying one plant for $270. I was about 4 feet tall in a 2 gallon pot. It grew all summer long drinking as much as 3 gallons of water per day. It ended up growing another 4 feet. The cooler weather arrived last December and I decided to bring the plant in when the weather dropped below 50 degrees. I recently decided to ditch the 2 gallon pot and put it in a huge 10 gallon container. Wow, was this poor tree root bound. I expect the new roots to take off in the new larger container. The hippie said not to eat the old leaves since the tree was sprayed with a variety of chemicals while it was at University. This year, its game on! I'll probably start some clones this spring and then put the big mama tree in the ground later this year. I never did hear the test results of the tree that I bought. I remember he had a 20' tree for sale. They grow crazy fast.
